A regular trip to Stockton’s Mecca Bingo turned into a night to remember for Lisa Campbell recently. Dressed as an elderly lady, TV’s John Barrowman caused quite the scene as he surprised Lisa during her weekend bingo night out.

In true Barrowman style he emerged from the crowd of bingo players dressed as an elderly lady and sprung the surprise on Lisa, as he told her she was to appear on television this weekend and preparations had been made for her to sing with her favourite band, The Overtones.

Barrowman explained to Lisa and onlookers that she had been picked to appear on BBC One’s Tonight’s the Night, a programme dedicated to making everyday people’s dreams come true.

Lisa was nominated by her long standing friend Rachel for her bravery in battling a string of serious medical conditions. The show was viewed by thousands and despite the nerves beforehand, Lisa, of Hardwick, joined The Overtones as they sang Come Back My Love.

Lisa said the performance was fantastic. “I went out and forgot about everyone. I just focused on the band. As soon as I got off I wanted to go back again.” Judging by the applause from the audience, I don’t think they would have minded.

Will you marry me?
An elderly widow and widower were dating for about five years. The man finally decided to ask her to marry. She immediately said "Yes".

The next morning when he awoke, he couldn't remember what her answer was! "Was she happy? I think so, wait, no, she looked at me funny..."

After about an hour of trying to remember to no avail, he got on the telephone and gave her a call. Embarrassed, he admitted that he didn't remember her answer to the marriage proposal.

"Oh", she said, "I'm so glad you called. I remembered saying 'yes' to someone, but I couldn't remember who it was."

Sticky finger chocolate and caramel biscuits recipe
Makes +/- 32 squares

Ingredients
Shortbread Layer
1 x 390 g Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
125 g butter at room temperature
1 extra large egg at room temperature
 
Caramel Layer
1 x 360 g tin Nestle Treat Caramel.

Chocolate layer
2 x 90 g slabs Cadbury's Dark Chocolate
 
Directions
Shortbread Layer
Adjust oven rack to one slot above middle shelf.
Preheat oven to 180°C and line a 32cm x 22cm swiss roll pan with baking paper.
Mix cookies according to package instructions.
Flatten the cookie mixture in the swiss roll pan. Level the top with the back of a spoon.
Bake for +/- 15 minutes until golden.
Leave to cool.

Caramel Layer
Blob spoonfuls of the caramel over the biscuit layer and spread.
 
Chocolate layer
Melt the chocolate over warm water and spread over the caramel layer. When half set, mark into portions and leave to cool before cutting and lifting out of the pan.
