Wacky Bingo News
Playing Live Bingo Can Boost Brain Power
Many knock the game of bingo as they believe it is a zero skill game which can be played by anybody but is this true? Well read on because you are in for a major surprise. A few years ago research was carried out by the University of Southampton’s Centre for Visual Cognition at the Department of Psychology on a group of 112 people aged 18 to 40, and older people aged between 60 and 82. Half of each group contained people that regularly played live bingo and of course the other half did not.
The research tested old and young bingo players as well as people who did not play the game with amazing results as it was found that the bingo players were faster and more accurate than those who didn’t play the game. In some tasks the older players outperformed their younger counterparts. Ms Winstone who was leading the research said these findings were in line with a growing body of research, which suggested regularly taking part in activities which require high levels of mental activity helps to maintain cognitive functioning in later life.
Ms Winstone said the research seem to conclude that suspected that long-term mental activity – just like bingo – could actually stave off the decline of cognitive abilities, such as speed and accuracy and recognition of patterns.
We tested the research by pitting one of our reporters; Zoe aged 25, against 67 year old Gloria, an avid live bingo player with over 40 years of bingo playing experience under her belt. Both players were given 8 cards and the game commenced. It was clear after just a few minutes that our intrepid reporter simply could not keep up with Gloria and Gloria even cheekily marked Zoe’s cards for numbers she has missed!
Zoe was amazed at the speed in which Gloria marked off the numbers called as were we!
“I simply could not keep up with her” said Zoe “I think I will stick with Online Bingo where the cards are automatically marked as it is much easier” Zoe admitted in defeat.
So if you want to boost your brain power simply gets down to your local bingo hall!

“Wow I can’t believe I’ve won my BBFL once again on my best bingo site. It is the best so far and everyone is so friendly and supportive. I will enjoy buying more games with my winnings. Thank you very much, xxx.”`
“I really enjoy my time on Giggle Bingo as it’s a friendly site and all roomies and CH’s get on really well. This is my first time I have won BBFL and to win it 3 times in my first week is absolutely fabulous. I think I am going to spend my winnings on treating the family to a day out somewhere but as yet we have not decided on anywhere. The things I enjoy the most about this site is the friendly atmosphere that sweeps through the rooms and where everyone joins in the chat games makes it more fun, xxx”

This joke came from a Roomie, gingercrisp. Thanks for the giggle, enjoy!
Retirement Jokes
An 85-year-old man was requested by his doctor for a sperm count as part of his physical exam.
The doctor gave the man a jar and said, "Take this jar home and bring back a semen sample tomorrow." The next day the 85-year-old man reappeared at the doctor's office and gave him the jar, which was as clean and empty as on the previous day.
The doctor asked, what happened and the man explained.
"Well, doc, it's like this--first I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but still nothing. Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, then with her left, still nothing. She tried with her mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, still nothing. We even called up Arleen, the lady next door and she tried too, first with both hands, then an armpit, and she even tried squeezing it between her knees, but still nothing."
The doctor was shocked! "You asked your neighbour?"
The old man replied, "Yep, none of us could get the jar open."

Nigel Slater throws his Christmas leftovers into the pan and comes up with a rich and satisfying soup. I tried this just after Christmas and believe me – the results were scrumptious!
Bubble and squeak soup
Ingredients
A medium-sized onion
2 tablespoons of dripping or butter
750g/1lb 10oz leftover roasted or boiled potatoes and parsnips
1 teaspoon of chopped thyme leaves
1.5 litres turkey, chicken or vegetable stock
Salt and ground black pepper
350g/12oz lightly cooked leftover greens (such as cabbage or Brussels sprouts)
150ml/5fl oz single cream
A fine grating of fresh nutmeg
Preparation method
Peel and slice the onion. Melt the dripping or butter in a large, deep saucepan and add the sliced onions. Let them cook for 15 minutes or so with a regular stir, until they are soft and sweet.
Chop the cooked potatoes into small pieces and add to the onions with the chopped thyme leaves. As soon as the potatoes are warmed through, pour in the stock and bring to the boil. Season, lower the heat to an enthusiastic simmer and leave, partially covered with a lid, for 25 minutes or so.
Chop the cooked greens and stir them into the soup. Don’t worry if they still have some butter clinging to them. Continue to simmer for 15 minutes.
Ladle two-thirds of the soup into a food processor and blend until smooth. Return the blended soup to the pan containing the remaining unblended soup. Add the cream and a grating of nutmeg and bring to the boil, then stir and pour into warm bowls. Bread isn’t necessary here but might be welcome if you aren’t having it with a sandwich.
Good luck and happy cooking. If you have any recipes that you would like to share with us, then why not drop us an email? If your recipe is published in the newsletter, then you
will receive $10 bonus in BBz. |
