Wacky Bingo News
A ladies football team is planning to play bingo.
A ladies football team is planning to switch to playing to raise funds for the club. The Yeovil Town Ladies squad is to swap its footballs for bingo balls in a bid to make some cash to support the running of the team.
Taking place on Friday 18 February 2011, the fun and games will be held in the Alec Stock Lounge of Yeovil Town football club. Bingo players who are eager to support the club and maybe even get themselves a prize have been advised to arrive by 19:00 GMT, as it is strictly eyes down at 19:30 when the bingo caller will start announcing the numbers.
Everyone is welcome to head down and join in the fun, with a book of bingo cards costing £8. The team was originally set up back in the early 1990s under the name of Yetminster Ladies, becoming Sherborn Ladies before finally settling on their current name of Yeovil Town Ladies.
At present they are in eighth place in the FA Tesco Women's Premier League - Southern Division. Playing bingo can be a brilliant way to raise funds, as John Wilkinson recently demonstrated when the News and Star reported he has raised £84,000 for the Macmillan cancer charity through bingo and other activities.

Valentine's Day may be a serious topic if you are 16 and in love for the first time. To the rest of us it's ok to poke fun at it every once in a while...
My One and Only
Roger, who was 19 years old, was buying an expensive bracelet, to surprise his girlfriend on Valentine's Day, at a very smart jeweller's shop in Hatton Garden, London.
The jeweller inquired, 'Would you like your girlfriend's name engraved on it?'
Roger thought for a moment, grinned, then answered, 'No, instead engrave "To my one and only love".'
The jeweller smiled and said, 'Yes, sir; how very romantic of you.'
Roger retorted with a glint in his eye, 'Not exactly romantic, but very practical. This way, if we break up, I can use it again.'

James Martin adds a contemporary twist to the classic Italian chilled cream dessert by spiking it with vodka. Hmmm, dessert and alcohol – a winning combination! LOL.
Vodka and vanilla panna cotta with minted strawberries
Prep time: 25 min, plus cooling time and setting time
Cook time: 20 min
Serves: 6
Ingredients
4 sheets leaf gelatine
120 ml milk
1.2 litres double cream
Zest of 2 oranges, finely grated
2 vanilla pods, split in half
150 g caster sugar
80 ml vodka
To serve
125 g strawberries, quartered
1-2 tbsp caster sugar
1 small bunch mint, torn
Method
- Soak the leaf gelatine in the milk in a small bowl and set aside.
- Heat 800ml cream, the orange zest, split vanilla pods and caster sugar in a pan. and bring to the boil. Simmer until the mixture is reduced by a third.
- While the cream is reducing, remove the gelatine from the milk and heat the milk in a pan to warm gently. Add the soaked gelatine, stirring to dissolve the gelatine.
- Stir into the warm cream; pour the mixture through a sieve and leave to cool.
- Lightly whisk the remaining cream and whisk into the setting mixture, together with the vodka. Pour the mixture into 6 ramekins or similar sized moulds and place in the fridge to set.
- Mix the strawberries, sugar and mint together in a bowl.
- To remove the panna cotta from the moulds: briefly dip the base of the mould in hot water to release. Wipe with a towel to avoid any water dripping and then tip onto a plate.
- Serve with the minted strawberries on the side.
Good luck and happy cooking. If you have any recipes that you would like to share with us, then why not drop us an email? If your recipe is published in the newsletter, then you
will receive $10 bonus in BBz. |
