Wacky Bingo News
Local woman marks 100th birthday with bingo
BLOOMINGTON — When Bernice Ditchen woke up a little later than she had anticipated Tuesday morning, she admitted to crying a little bit.
A busy day was in store for Bloomington’s newest 100-year-old resident and any delay could cost her time with her favourite hobby.
"I’ve been playing Bingo since I was about six or seven," Ditchen said Tuesday afternoon during a party in her honour at Big Money Bingo at the Crossroads Centre in Normal. "I started at the fair with my dad. We would use corn to put over the numbers. We played for silverware and glassware and eventually started playing for money."
Tuesday was a busy day for Ditchen. She opened a birthday card from the President and Mrs. Obama. She was given a limo ride by members of her family. And there were friends and family at her favourite bingo parlour to honour her 100 years of life.
"I told her she had to live to be 100," said 13-year-old Joey Ploense, one of three great-great grandkids. "Now, I’m telling her she has to go to 102 and we will go from there."
The former bookkeeper for State Farm Insurance Cos. was born in Pontiac on August 24, 1910, and moved to Bloomington nine years later. She married Anthony Ditchen and moved into a house in the 900 block of East Oak Street in 1945, where she still resides. Anthony passed away in 1981.
"I don’t feel like I’m 100," she said. "I don’t know where it came from or how
100 years got here."
But she’s still active. She passed a driver’s exam on Tuesday, played Bingo at two different locations and has no plans of slowing down.
"I’ve never been tired of Bingo," she said. "And it helps keep me active and gives me somewhere to go."
A friend, Linda Nolan, often travels with her, even accompanying her to Las Vegas about five years ago.
"I have some great stories about Bernice, but more than that, she’s just a great person and a thrill to be around," she said.

Read up on all the fantastic weekly and monthly promotions. Read all about them and make sure you don’t miss out on the action. Here are just some of the highlights:
Booby Keno Battle - NEW for September starts 30th August
When:
Snickers: Mon, Wed & Sat 10 am & 10pm GMT
Ice Breaker: Mon, Wed & Fri 10am & 10pm EST
It’s Keno Jim.... but not as you know it LMAO! This month instead of winning by beating the host, you win by getting a worse score than the host WOOHOO!! The game still plays the same old way, so you pick your favourite five balls for the week, as will your loveable Chat Host.
Each game we mark down the first 20 balls called, and for every number of yours that’s called you get a point. Don’t get too excited though, so does your Chat Host LOL. They’re not so loveable now eh LMAO! When you see your numbers called yell meee #.
If you score LOWER than your hosts score at the end of the hour you get 1bbz for every ball LOWER than their score. That means if they beat you by 5 win 5BBz, they beat you by 10 win 10BBz. Bring on the boobies!! Oops I mean Booby Battle LOL Which one of you has it in you to be the biggest boob ever? LMAO!!
Should your host be the biggest BOOB that hour we will put 10BBz into the Booby Prize Purse and everyone in that hour gets a ticket into the draw. At the end of the week we will draw for one winner who will walk off with the Booby Prize!
This game plays through the week in Snickers & Ice Breaker at either 10am, 10pm or 8pm. You can play all sessions, or just pop in for one or two.
Team Piggy Bank - NEW for September starts 30th August

Snickers: Tue, Wed & Sun 10am, 2pm & 10pm GMT
Ice Breaker: Tue, Wed & Sun 10am, 4pm & 8pm EST
Team Piggy Bank is the much awaited all new Team Event, WOOHOO! In this game your aim is to claim and earn BBz for your team! The more you claim the more you win, it’s that easy. And, there are now MORE claims allowed in each game. In Snickers there will be FIVE claims a game, and in Ice Breaker there will be FOUR claims in a game. For each claim you earn 0.50 BBz for your team. So get your best hustle on and swindle all the BBz you can for your team GL!
The rules are now MORE flexible, as per your wishes, so check them out :)
Rules:
1. Pop along to any Snickers or Ice Breaker Team Piggy Bank session and join a Team for the week by giving the Chat Host your choice of two numbers. You can

b. AND earn a minimum % of BBz for your team each week determined on how many players are in your team. So remember to call!
4. To play the game itself all you need do is call meeee # # when you see your numbers called. We will allow five calls in Snickers and four calls in Ice Breaker.

LOL, this is short and sweet. I tried to tell it with my best Scottish accent but let’s just say it fell flat. Have a chuckle and pass it on!
Picture the Bride
Two Scotsmen, brothers, Finlay and Jim Calder, were sitting in the pub discussing Jim’s big wedding day.
’Aye, it’s going to be grand,’ said Jim. ’I’ve got everything organised already,
the flowers, the church, the cars, the reception, the rings, the minister, even
ma stag night.’
Finlay smiled and nodded, approvingly.
’Heavens, I’ve even got a kilt to be married in,’ continued Jim with a look of satisfaction.
’A kilt... that’s guid. You’ll look smart in that,’ exclaimed Finlay, ’and what’s the tartan?’
’Och,’ uttered Jim, ’I imagine she’ll be in white.’
Send in your Joke for the Week, and if your joke is chosen and published in the weekly newsletter, then you will receive an added $10 bonus in BBz. Laughter IS the best medicine, so let’s have a chuckle together.
Email me your jokes for next week’s newsletter. Thanks for all the jokes we’ve received. Keep ’em coming.

A mouth watering, filling meal of eggs, sausages and tomatoes, that costs less than £5 to make. The quick-and-easy-to-make cornbread is an added bonus. I don’t know about your family, but mine never tire of anything to do with eggs and sausage...so why not combine the two with this simple recipe? Anything to free up more time for Bingo, LOL!
Tomato and spicy sausage baked eggs with cornbread recipe
Serves 4
Takes 45 minutes to make and about 30 minutes in the oven
Ingredients
2 tbsp olive oil
1 large red onion, roughly chopped
150g spicy chorizo, roughly chopped
1 red pepper, deseeded and chopped
2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes
4 large eggs
½ mild green chilli, deseeded and chopped, to serve (optional)
For the cornbread
40g butter, melted, plus extra for greasing
200g plain flour
150g cornmeal
2 tsp baking powder
2 green chillies, deseeded and finely chopped
2 tbsp grated mature Cheddar
2 large eggs
150ml milk
Method:
1. Make the cornbread. Preheat the oven to 200°C/fan180°C/gas 6. Grease a 16cm x 25cm shallow roasting tin. Mix the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, chillies, cheese and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Beat the eggs, milk and 40g butter in another bowl, then gently mix into the dry ingredients. Pour into the tin and bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden and cooked through. Set aside.
2. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large ovenproof frying pan and cook the onion for 5 minutes, until softened. Stir in the chorizo and cook until the juices are released. Stir in the pepper, then the tomatoes and bring to a simmer with 100ml water. Cook for 12-15 minutes, until the pepper is soft and the mixture is thickened. Season.
3. Make 4 wells in the tomato mix. Crack in the eggs and bake for 3-4 minutes to set. Garnish with chilli, if using, and serve with the cornbread.
Good luck and happy cooking. If you have any recipes that you would like to share with us, then why not drop us an email? If your recipe is published in the newsletter, then you
will receive $10 bonus in BBz.
