Drive-in bingo – a new Irish craze
A field in County Meath was filled with car-loads of bingo players last week as the latest gambling craze in Ireland took off. Drive-in bingo became popular after the introduction of the smoking ban meant that bingo players had to abstain from smoking for hours at a time.
Their solution has turned into a hit across the country. "It is proving to be extremely popular, it is good value and the prizes can be a few thousand sometimes...All you have to do is drive in, turn off your engine and buy a bingo book. If you get a line, simply beep your horn and we'll come and literally hand the cash in through the window."
"It’s also a great laugh and there's been a lot of positive reaction. You can relax in your own car with friends or family, have a smoke if you want, and enjoy the game and not worry about parking," said Séamus Davis, the organizer of the event.
"It is really catching on, and word of mouth is helping out with this. We are just off the old Dublin road and are completely accessible by motorways. So we expect people from Dublin and from further afield too, perhaps from Cavan and areas like that. It is a day out and you could spend up to three hours playing." |

Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have.
Ralph and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Ralph suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.
Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled him out. When the Head Nurse/Director became aware of Edna's heroic act she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as she now considered her to be mentally stable.
When she went to tell Edna the news she said, 'Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of the person you love... I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness. The bad news is Ralph hung himself in the bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he's dead.'
Edna replied, 'He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry...How soon can I go home?'

My sister sent this recipe to me and I made it on the weekend. This recipe for low-fat Chocolate Chilli Cake seems too good to be true. It was so easy to make and was delish. I love the chocolate and chilli combination. Indulgent and almost guilt-free, what more could you ask for?
Low-fat Chocolate Chilli coconut cake
Ingredients
200g dark chocolate, melted
200g fat-free, Bulgarian yogurt
50ml vegetable oil
150g soft brown sugar (I used demerara)
100g ground almonds
10ml dried chilli flakes
30ml cocoa powder
50g desiccated coconut
4 large eggs
140g cake flour
10ml baking powder
Chocolate Ganache
100g dark chocolate
50ml reduced fat cream
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 180C, grease and line a cake pan with baking paper.
2. Combine the melted chocolate, yogurt, vegetable oil, sugar, ground almonds, chilli flakes, coconut and cocoa powder in a food processor. Blend until smooth.
3. Add the eggs one by one whilst blending. Add the cake flour and baking powder, blend until well incorporated.
4. Pour the batter into the prepared tin and bake for 20-25 minutes until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
5. Melt the chocolate and pour in the cream, beat well. If it's too thick add a bit of warmed milk and mix through.
6. The mixture might become lumpy, just microwave for 30 seconds until smooth.
7. Pour the ganache over the cake.
