Daniel Pops the Question at Bingo
An employee at a land based Bingo club was in for the surprise of her life when, as a special birthday bonus, the evening ended with her boyfriend popping the question in front of over 100 bingo players.
A 'gobsmacked' Shauna Crawshaw, who was 19 that day, had no idea that her boyfriend of seven months, Daniel Clamp, was about to propose to her in front of more than 100 bingo players while she was at work at a bingo hall in Middleway Park, Burton.
Daniel, a 21 year-old student living in Thorn Tree Lane in Newhall had already made the decision that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend in front of an audience and what better place than a bingo club full of people.
He commented: "I thought that proposing to her at work would be quite special."
Daniel had already spoken to the manager at the Bingo club, who was his girlfriend's boss. The manager had agreed that Daniel could use the club microphone used for calling bingo numbers to ask the big question.
He added: "I was shaking and really nervous on the night. I sat down with one of my friends and said to the manager that I needed five minutes before I asked."
Miss Crawshaw, from Springfield Road in Swadlincote, added: "My manager told me to come over and told the caller to stop the game because Dan had something to say to me. Dan got up on the stage and said that he loved me and he wanted to marry me. I was gobsmacked and I couldn't stop shaking."
Her boyfriend passed the microphone to her nervously, awaiting her response. To the cheers of all the customers and staff, she accepted.
Daniel added: "They were shouting 'go on son!'"
Daniel then took his new fiancé away for a romantic birthday evening. The couple are yet to confirm a date for the big day but have said that it will be after Shauna has completed her beauty course at Burton College and Daniel has finished his sports development coaching degree. |

I can't think of anything better than a warm sweet dessert made in minutes – so here is a recipe for Mini Jam or Syrup Sponges that you can make in the microwave. Enjoy with some custard or ice-cream. Great comfort food for these cold nights, lol.
Mini Jam Sponges recipe
Ingredients
150 gm (5 oz) Butter
110 gm (4 oz) Sugar
3 Eggs
170 gm (6 oz) Flour
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
2 tsp Lemon Zest
1 -2 tbsp Milk (optional)
6 teaspoons of Strawberry Jam (or Syrup)
Directions
Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, beating well after each addition.
Sift in the flour and baking powder, stir in the lemon zest. If the mixture seems a little thick, add a tablespoon or two of milk.
Lightly grease 6 glass ramekin dishes (the ones I use are +- 8cm in diameter) and place a teaspoon of strawberry jam (or syrup) into each one. Spread it around a little to coat the bottom of the dish. Now divide the batter between the 6 dishes.
Cover each one with plastic wrap, pierce a couple of times with a fork & place in the microwave on medium power for around 5 minutes (adjust settings/time according to your microwave).
Alternatively you can leave the cling film off & bake these in the oven at Gas Mark 5/190C/375F for around 20 minutes.
